Five Books To Read With Your Kids

The Secret Garden

Children are the epitome of innocence and as mothers we always want to instill good values and life skills in them. There is no better way of doing that then introducing them to reading from an early stage. Children have a vast imagination and they absolutely love the tales which transport them to magical places.

Mentioned below are five books that we personally feel every mother should read with her children this holiday season because they not only entertain but also educate. These books write about bravery in a subtle way, prompting feelings of self-worth and courage in all our special children.

The BFG by Roald Dahl

Most of us know about Matilda but very few of us have heard of ‘The BFG’. Full of adventure, giants and dreams, this book is a thrill to read. With the protagonist being a little girl, your child will be ecstatic to find a character to relate to.

The Diary Of A Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney

Think about that one child who always gets into scrapes, has trouble fitting in and just attracts trouble like a honey bee is attracted towards a flower. This is his story about how he overcomes those hurdles and grows into a more matured and self-sufficient person, something we all want our children to be.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory  by Roald Dahl

This book is an all time favorite and one should absolutely read it especially with children because if one had to describe it in one word, it would be ‘Chocolatey’. I love chocolates and I know children love them too! Therefore, reading about a magical world of chocolate with limitless imagination, will definitely get their interest in reading to move further along.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett

The secret garden is a masterpiece of a book boasting of mystery , unadulterated love, innocence and magic. It is so vivid that the reader doesn’t even know when they become so enthralled in it that they imagine themselves right there watching the events go by instead of reading about them. It is a book that for sure, should be read this holiday season because it gives so much hope and happiness for the future that it just fills up the reader with immense happiness.

The Famous Five series by Enid Blyton

Enid Blyton is my go to writer whenever I feel nostalgic for the times gone by or just want to be a child again even for a little while. Her books always treat children like children but also gives them authority that enables them to learn and grow independent. Every child protagonist in her vast collection of written books is independent, strong and curious about learning and most of her books are centred around mysteries, a type of genre that is especially shown to captivate young readers. She is an author a child must visit at least once in their lifetime and if they do it with you, all the more better because your memory of reading to them such unforgettable stories will be etched in their minds forever.
